Los Altos & Los Altos Hills

Welcome to Los Altos Hills / Los Altos

A luxurious neighborhood at the intersection of tech centers and country estates

Los Altos Hills is the heart of California’s “residential-agricultural” region. Of the 8,000 people who call the area home, most live in large, ranch-style estates built to exude luxury and emphasize a deep connection to nature. Residents in Los Altos Hills have access to an expansive 80-mile trail system where they can ride horses, enjoy a leisurely jog or walk, or pedal a bike to soak up the gorgeous countryside of California.

Homes in Los Altos Hills and the nearby Los Altos village are large and luxurious. With most growth in the area occurring since the 1950s (after World War II ended and people began looking for more luxurious homes), most homes are relatively modern, with expansive layouts and multiple rooms. Acreage is a crucial aspect of any home in Los Altos Hills, where the minimum lot size is one acre.

Local Lifestyle

Los Altos Hills and Los Altos are both affluent communities. Residents enjoy the laid-back atmosphere of a more agricultural location, including spending time outdoors on ranch-like estates or exploring the miles of community pathways. Horse stables, chicken coops, and local deer are all familiar sights in the rolling hills of Los Altos. Los Altos Hills is a strictly residential community, containing only a bookstore and gift shop, though Los Altos hosts several lovely shops, traditional stores, and delicious restaurants.

Dining, Entertainment & Shopping

In nearby Los Altos Village, you’ll enjoy dozens of delectable restaurants. Sip signature margaritas and taste house-smoked salmon at Los Altos Grill, or discover fresh, healthy, and unique Chinese dishes at Chef Chu’s. In Los Altos Village, you’ll also find many small boutiques, such as BK Collections, with its wide selection of Asian artifacts, and Cranberry Scoop, with a curated collection of giftables and home delights.

In Los Altos, you can meet your needs by stopping by any number of shopping centers, hardware stores, fine jewelry shops, and unique hair salons such as Halo Blow Dry Bar. You can also stop by the village for local events at the Los Altos History Museum or enjoy games, crafts, movies, and read-aloud events on the monthly Family Fun Day. Whatever you like to do most, there’s a little something to be found in Los Altos!

Things to Do

Los Altos is a vibrant center for outdoor and indoor activities. If you like to enjoy quiet, there are 80 miles of outdoor pathways running through the rolling Los Altos Hills for you to enjoy. However, if you prefer something a little more traditional and community-focused, there are plenty of local events in Los Altos.

The Los Altos Festival of Lights Parade is held annually; it welcomes the holiday season with marching bands, costumed characters, and gorgeous floats lit with thousands of brilliant lights. In the summer, you can enjoy fine wines, a selection of artists from around the world, and delicious local food offerings at the famous Los Altos Art & Wine Festival. Any Thursday, May through September, you can sample fresh local produce and celebrate your farming neighbors at the Los Altos Farmers Market. Dozens of other local events include wine strolls, holiday celebrations, and pet parades.

You’ll never find yourself at a loss for good things to enjoy when you make your home in Los Altos Hills or Los Altos!
